The proprietors and staff of the Gunn House Hotel pleasantly welcome you to the most historic Inn, in
Sonora. The hotel is named for Dr. Lewis C. Gunn, a native Philadelphian who was lured to the area to seek
his fortune in the California gold mines. Recognizing the vast beauty of the terrain, he settled in Sonora,
where using local labor he built the area's first two-story adobe building as his home and subsequently as
his place of business after failing as a gold prospector. In the early 1850's Dr. Gunn started the Mother
Lode's first newspaper, The Sonora Herald.
Experience the warmth and exceptional hospitality of the Gunn House Hotel. Steps away from historic
downtown Sonora, a lovely drive to Yosemite and just 2 ½ hours from San Francisco and the greater Bay
area.
Charming guest rooms with private baths, the highest quality mattresses, uniquely decorated in period
antiques.
A big Complimentary Innkeepers Breakfast Buffet awaits you each morning in our parlor or outside in
one of our many garden setting-seating areas.
Whether on business, a romantic getaway or visiting friends and family, The Gunn House Hotel is your home
away from home.
