rom that early rich history the original structure has changed and expanded in both size and purpose. During the latter part of the 19th century it served as a County hospital. For the next half-century a local Matriach named Josephine Bisordi attracted gold miners, tourists and local residents to the newly renovated and renamed "Italia Hotel." The magnet for staying at the "Italia Hotel" were the unique sleeping rooms, as well as the famous home-cooked meals that Josephine personally prepared. In 1960 the hotel was again extensively renovated. It was at that time that the new owner, Margaret Dienelt appropriately named it "The Gunn House." During the early Television Western Series era, many of which were filmed in the Sonora area, the hotel became a favorite staying place for the actors and crews. home
